The experience of recyclers to the service of all actors in the chain of batteries
The 2006
This new regulation, which has already been implemented in most Member States (the deadline was 26th of September 2008) will have significant effects on the batteries market.
Producers must take into account measures for minimizing the environmental impact starting from the design of batteries and accumulators.
Among these, appear to be:
- The limitation of certain substances such as lead, cadmium and mercury that affect recycling activities (treatment process, markets for recovered materials ...);
- The energy labelling of portable batteries in order to enable consumers to make the right choice;
- The objectives in terms of efficiency of recycling, in priority the recycling rate of recovered materials for batteries and accumulators after recycling process;
- The transportation of batteries;
- The extraction of spent batteries of electrical appliances;
- ....
The implementation of the REACH regulation (substances and chemical preparations) has a significant impact both on our batteries are positioned on the market as on battery recycling. Lastly new battery technologies are emerging and will require the development of new recycling technologies.
EBRA, which meets with almost all batteriy recycling entreprises, has gained extensive knowledge on various environmental aspects on batteries.
The Batteries Environment Outlook Forum aims to share acquired knowledge with all stakeholders.
